New Zealand WW1 12th (Nelson & Marlborough) Collar Badge - 1917 to 1923
A single, darkened brass collar badge to the WW1 New Zealand 12th (Nelson & Marlborough) Infantry Regiment.
Formed in 1917 after the unsustainable losses on the Western Front, by a part amalgamation of companies from the 13th (Nth Canterbury and Westland) Infantry Regiment. The 12th and 13th then fully amalgamated in 1923, but it has since been proven that both Regiments disliked their 12th/13th badge and continued to wear their Pre-WW1 badges well into the 1940's/50's.
Collar is in good condition, with light wear to front. Much of the chocolate coloured coating to front has been polished off (now traces to back only). Note there is a verdi gris stain to lower right border (when viewed from the front).
To back are two D-shaped copper lugs and the maker plaque of "J R Gaunt, London".
