A sadly broken (missing top wreath and banner) WW1 11th (North Auckland) Mounted Rifles Cap/Collar Badge (worn as either).
This is probably a 11th badge, as the ultra rare 3rd Auckland Mounted Rifles Cap/Collar badges usually don't have a Gaunt plaque to back.
Dark tone to wreath and Boers head.
To back are two D shaped copper looped lugs, firm and original, along with the maker plaque of "J R Gaunt, London".
A space filler.
