Old New Zealand Badge Collections
Over the years, like many collectors I have chased, and more often than not, lost out on trying to buy accumulations or collections of badges.
Some of these "misses" I have kept the photo's of or like one of the sets of pictures below, someone has forwarded them to me.
I own none of these collections, but they do form a unique snapshot in time, some with amazing badges and buttons which hardly ever come to market.
If anyone is incensed by the images displayed below or I have infringed on a copyright, please contact me and I will remove the images.
I often refer back to these images, and hope that they also help you.

- Above: Badge board 1 of 2, which appeared on a global auction website in Australia in Jan 2010. Sadly just slightly our of focus. The star is the Officers 3rd Battalion Wellington (East Coast) Rifle Volunteers Helmet plate to center.
- Above: Badge Board 2 of 2 of the same collection. Lots of wonderful badges here. Note though the colour of the majority of gilt. Maybe mounted above a open fire or the collector was a heavy smoker. Certainly the collection shows some time on the display boards.
- Opposite Top, Bottom and Above: Just a few images I requested at the time on some badges on the above two boards. The above low-tail New Zealand Mounted Reinforcement Cap Badge was to the 33rd Draft. Opposite shows a rather scarce generic Reinforcement badge worn possibly by some of the 6th Reinforcements and onwards. Has the 3 fern leaves, with NZ to center, and the triple "Entente" or Alliance, of France, England and Russia to lower banner. The 31st Infantry Reinforcement Cap badge was covering it in the original full board picture on above Board 2.

- Above: Badge board 1 of 3. I believe this collection resides in a Australian Museum. For the New Zealand Volunteer era Badge collector, this is just a superb collection, with many items here I have never seen for sale before.
- Above: Badge board 2 of 3. Again, part of the New Zealand Volunteer Helmet plate collection.
- Above: Badge board 3 of 3. Just a stunning collection.
- Surrounding: A collection of New Zealand Military (and other) buttons. Many years ago this was forwarded to me by the owner. I did reach out to him a few years back, but sadly learnt that he passed away. Just a wonderful collection which shows the depth and variety of what was worn from the Volunteer period to now.

- Above: A rather rare badge, which was shown to me many years back by the new owner who had just spent some 20 years chasing it to purchase. The Volunteer period unit were based in the Nelson Military District, guarding the port defense of Westport, on the west coast of the South Island of New Zealand.

The following are photo's of a collection which appeared in a New Zealand Auction House some years back. The pictures highlight the various ways a superb display can be built up (Ian Hamilton Collection).
