New Zealand WW1 Victory Medal to 43057 Gnr. A Romano N.Z.E.F - N.Z. Field Artillery
A single, full size Victory medal to 43057 Gunner Angelo Romano of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force.
Angelo was a Seamen, prior to his service in WW1. He lists his employer as a Mr Double of Wallacetown (a small town west of Invercargill, Southland, South Island, NZ). He then lists his address, as his friend Mr Double of Wallacetown and his next of kin, his Mother as living in Genoa, Italy. Angelo was born in Italy.
He started his service on the 4th of Dec 1916, with the 25th New Zealand Field Artillery Reinforcements. He left NZ and arrived in Sling, UK on the 21st of July 1917, and joined the 12th Battery, 3rd Brigade of the New Zealand Field Artillery, in France on the 22nd of Oct 1917.
He was to see in total 2 years and 94 days overseas.
One or two infractions with the Army, as a Reinforcement and in the N.Z.F.A in France. Angelo also caught a Venereal disease in Feb 1918, which would see him briefly hosiptialised in France.
Angelo was discharged from the Army in August 1919, in New Zealand, at the termination of hostilities.
He was entitled to both a British War Medal and this Victory Medal. Sadly I do not know the where-a-bouts of the BWM. His Victory medal is in uncleaned condition, with traces of old polish to its surface. It comes with a small length of original ribbon.
